The Ship Song

I built the proudest ship to carry us
And Hope and Glory was its crew
Happiness and Love could come along with us
And I would sail the world with you

And every lantern was a moonlit night
And every sail would fill with breeze
The ship itself was made of promises
I think we made a few we didn't keep

For as the year wore on
Summer turned to fall
And the breeze became an awful storm

I couldn't save the ship
I couldn't save the crew, no
I couldn't save myself
But I will save you

A boat is stronger that is made of wood
Than such a fleet of silver dreams
Next time I'll build a ship for everydays
A boat that can be worn and torn and fixed
To weather such an awful storm

I couldn't save the ship
I couldn't save the crew, no
I couldn't save myself
But I will save you
I'll build a lifeboat

I'd make it better
If you would stay by my side
I'd make a vessel to stand for this roaring sea

I couldn't save the ship
I couldn't save the crew, no
I couldn't save myself
But I will save you
I will save you
I will save you
